I want to state not one projector is ideal. You’ll encounter a give and take with any model you buy. The InFocus ScreenPlay 8602 surely is not without its weaknesses. It’s my opinion the engineers should have put more energy into designing a more effective cable management area. The particular one used is a wonderful idea, but it really lacks stability. The plastic clips are lightweight and may break easy if you aren’t careful. Also the DI action could have been better. Should your InFocus Screenplay 8602 come with the old firm ware you will have to upgrade it to one of the newer V7x versions to acheive better iris action. Still it will not be as smooth as some, however it really will improve and be much less demanding.
OK let’s focus on the great stuff! I have already been looking for the best upgrade to my current Benq W1000 for a few months now. It’s actually a stressful process of elimination looking to find what fits one’s price range and style. On firing the InFocus Screenplay 8602 system up, I’ve found it important to set the projector to never do a search for an inbound signal. Set the InFocus Screenplay 8602 to lock on a single input, so that it doesn’t spend half a minute searching for a signal.
I’ve taken the previous couple of months taking a look at the units I was able to find in my area. After looking at Sony’s VW60 and VW70s I’ve found the picture quality impressive! My only issue was brightness. Neither would illuminate my 120 inch screen with just a few lights switched on. I’ve also seen the Epson 8350 and 9350..basically the same projector. The 9350 price is much closer in price to the InFocus Screenplay 8602. Apart from cost..these units do not have anything in common. The level of clarity and depth the InFocus Screenplay 8602 provides is on a greater level. Images are almost palpable in a sense. You begin to think that your watching through a window rather than a projector. Contrast numbers indicate the Epson 9350 could be the better unit(50,000:1) for black levels and contrast.This isn’t the way it is in the least ..those numbers mean nothing once you have seen both, the InFocus Screenplay 86022 is (30,000:1)!
The Benq W6000 is yet another unit I’ve spent time with. It is also within the same price range as the now marked down InFocus Screenplay 8602. Both of these are very clear, sharp as single chip DLPs typically are. The differences lay with the chips used and processing. Both units are incredibly bright in best mode. The area where the InFocus Screenplay 8602 excels over the Benq is skin tones, color correctness and black levels. There’s more depth and pop with the InFocus Screenplay 8602 as a result of it’s better-quality native contrast. Both units use dynamic irises to accomplish better black levels. Neither is quite as smooth as I would really like. The Sony’s tend to be better with this feature.
The InFocus Screenplay 8602 has CFI for smoothing fast paced sports. It isn’t a function I’d personally use with movies. It can give your movies a soap opera affect. This is where film begins to look a lot more like a home video.
In case you are RBE sensitive, the InFocus Screenplay 8602 comes with an option to operate at 6X Color wheel speed. The system will operate a few dB louder, however your likelihood of seeing rainbows is virtually impossible.
The InFocus Screenplay 8602 isn’t a gorgeous projector in any respect! The Benq w6000 has it beat in this area, along with almost any other unit on the market in looks. lol
However , when you’re looking at image quality…the InFocus Screenplay 8602 units competition gets to be a little thin. You’ll have to spend significantly more to best this InFocus Screenplay 8602 units image quality. The InFocus Screenplay 8602 does not provide the deepest blacks or power zoom and focus. Once setup those features are hardly ever used by the majority of people. This projector falls into the well-balanced category. Once you take into consideration the number of best mode lumens the InFocus Screenplay 8602can put on the screen in comparison to everything else under $10,000, the blacks I’d personally call sufficiently good. Apart from a couple of quirks there are few peers.
I am quite satisfied with my investment in this unit. Customer support is excellent and English speaking.. right here in the good old USA. If you are looking to purchase a projector inside the $2500 or more range. The InFocus Screenplay 8602 needs to be on top of your shortlist!

I am by no means an expert on projectors, but I am very picky when it comes to details. My main concern in purchasing a single chip DLP was the rainbow effect. I am very susceptible to this and was able to see it on all of the projectors that I previewed with slower color wheels.
For those of you who are not familiar with the rainbow effect, it is produced due to the use of a ‘color wheel’ that allows the projector to project the three different colors (RGB red, green, blue) onto the screen to create the picture using only a single chip. The wheel spins very fast and the light shines through each color on the wheel as needed to create a projected image that is accurate in color. The problem with this, is that when you are looking at the projected image, if you move your eyes (say in an action scene) the colors appear to break up and appear like a rainbow, this effect gets worse the slower the color wheel is.

. When the front door is closed, you have a round display that tells you input and volume level. The one thing I wish it had was the current surround mode but not the end of the world.
